The event had gone to the dogs. Or cats. Or birds. The Calgary Humane Society’s (CHS) annual Cocktails for Critters, held this year Oct 1 at The Westin, was an SRO success with the highlight being  ‘Rescues on the Runway’ -a fun and innovative show featuring animal alumni previously adopted from Calgary Humane Society strutting their stuff on the catwalk (dogwalk?). More than 400 guests attended the event that also featured adoptable animals from CHS, signature cocktails, delicious appetizers, wine, whiskey Westjet raffles and cool silent auction items that enticed guests to bid well over $26,000.

“We are thrilled to be able to continue with the tradition of hosting Cocktails for Critters. It is truly such a fun, unique event. Where else can you get dressed up in your cocktail dress or your best suit and pet a bearded dragon or cuddle a guinea pig! We are so fortunate because we have the most loyal and dedicated supporters, like Preventous our presenting sponsor, our Furever Friends, our wonderful volunteers and staff, and everyone who bought tickets and came out to support us. We thank everyone who helped make our event such a success” said Carrie Fritz, CHS executive director.

That the event was an SRO success is truly a blessing for the society’s ‘clients’ as the economic challenges being faced by so many today has seen more than 7,600 animals utilizing the services of CHS. Many of these animals were surrendered due to the inability to pay for the care of the family pet. Attending this year’s event were: long-time supporter, philanthropist and Furever Friend Joan Snyder;  Calgary Humane Society board chair Deanna Steblyk; event emcee’s Mookie Wilson and Billie Jo English from KISS 95.9; avid pet-lover Laureen Harper; and presenting sponsor Preventous Collaborative Health’s Rohan and Nalini Bissoondath.
